Parent Involvement

Involvement is essential in continuing the Killarney spirit.

Killarney has an open door policy and actively seeks and encourages families to be involved in the school. Involvement ranges from volunteering as a member on the Board of Directors, Parent Committee or Class Parent, coming in to share skills and experiences with the children or participate in an activity.

Board of Directors

The volunteer Board of Directors are elected from the community of parents with children enrolled in the School.

The Board members are the licensees of the school and are responsible for the governance of the preschool, overseeing the financial management, current and future directions of Killarney School. Essentially, the Board has responsibility for managing all areas of the school, with the exception of daily operations of the school, educational curriculum and staffing, which are the Teaching Director’s responsibility. The Teaching Director works closely with the Board to continually look at ways to improve the quality of the program and the environment that we offer children.

Parent representatives usually serve a one or two-year term and either step down or stand for re-election at our Annual General Meeting held each March.

The Board usually meets once a term.

Parent Committee

One of our driving principles is an excellent preschool education for reasonable fees, so our Parent Committee is active in organising fundraising activities throughout the year.

The fundraising proceeds are directly reinvested back into the School, continually improving and upgrading our facilities and resources.

We need families to get involved and enjoy social activities. It’s a great way to get to know other parents and have fun at the same time.

Functions include activities such as, but not limited to morning teas, cocktail parties, an annual fundraising event and Mother’s and Father’s day stalls.

Class Parents

Our preschool prides itself on our sense of community spirit.

The class parents help unite families by arranging and seeking volunteers across the class to help with a number of activities, such as bringing in a plate of food for the many of our participation mornings, washing, contacting library book and organising class dinners and drinks.

There are a total of 4 class parents (2 per group) who work together with the teaching staff.

Other ways to get involved

There are many ways that parents/carers can be involved in the Killarney community. Getting involved, no matter how big or small the contribution, is appreciated by the teachers and the children. Involvement helps to strengthen the bond between home and preschool.

We encourage families to share any interests or special talents they may have by coming in to talk to the children. Ideas, experiences and skills are greatly valued and enable us to extend each child’s interests, abilities and knowledge.

Children love to be read to. We encourage families to come in when available to sit and read to the children in small groups.

Killarney organises excursions throughout the year and we appreciate and need the support of parents to accompany us and the children.
